As a School Counselor, I aim to foster students' social, emotional and personal growth at each stage of their development along with essential learning in school. I work to help children develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to become competent and confident learners. My emphasis is on a meeting children's needs through prevention, early identification and intervention
I work with students and families to provide academic support, educate students about self-awareness and self-esteem, teach problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, provide individual and small group counseling services and make referrals to outside services.
If you would like me to meet with your child for any reason at all, please do not hesitate to reach out via email. Students can access me by either asking their teacher to come to see me or by filling out an appointment slip found on my office door.
We are very excited to introduce our brand new Social Emotional Learning Program!
One of the immediate initiatives that I will be focusing on is integrating a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program into the entire Saint Paul School community. A team of us (Myself, Ms. Mappa, and Ms. Conaway) spent six weeks this summer learning about a SEL program named RULER. RULER is a systemic approach to SEL developed at the Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER aims to use the principles of emotional intelligence to help inform how teachers teach, leaders lead, students learn, and families support students. RULER is an acronym for the five skills of emotional intelligence:
Recognizing emotions in oneself and others
Understanding the causes and consequences of emotions
Labeling emotions with a nuanced vocabulary
Expressing emotions in accordance with cultural norms and social context
Regulating emotions with helpful strategies
This skill development relies on four core tools, which will be introduced to all stakeholders in the school community—school leaders, teachers, staff, students, and families: the Charter, Mood Meter, Meta-Moment, and Blueprint. As the school year progresses, stay tuned for more information on how each of these core tools will become embedded into our entire school community.
