As the reading resource teacher, I provide individual and small group instruction and remediation. I also participate in whole group instruction and teach small guided reading groups at all levels of ability within each primary class. At the middle school level, I assist the language arts teacher in her writing, reading skills, test practice, and project labs one time a week for each Grade 6-8.
In order to best meet each student’s individual needs, l work with the classroom teachers to see where my teaching and assistance is most needed from day to day. You may see me working in a classroom, in the Media Center, a middle school writing lab, or in the Resource Center.
We have purchased exciting, new reading programs for our students at all levels. These programs are aligned with innovative, interactive smartboard technology. The Rowland reading program called Super Kids, is being implemented in Pre-K4 thru grade 2. In Grades 3-5 we are using the McGraw-Hill Reading program called Wonders. Our middle school is using a Pearson online language arts and literature program.
Other important components of our reading program are the DRA II Kits for Grades K-3 as well as for Grades 4-8. This Developmental Reading Assessment is used to indicate the appropriate independent reading level for each child. The students can then be placed in the correct leveled readers which are included in our new reading programs.
