Each year, Civics First Inc. offers a detailed court case to any middle school that wishes to participate in the state-wide competition in January. This is an excellent opportunity for our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to learn about the judicial process and to gain self-confidence, poise, and the ability to think on their feet.
Mrs. Bradley and Miss Thibdeau coach the students every Wednesday afternoon from October until late March; practices run from 3:00 until 4:30. Where else can your child go through law school in five months for free and have a great time in the process?
All middle school students are welcome to join our Mock Trial program. No previous experience practicing law is necessary.
This year (2024) the Saint Paul Mock Trial team was excited to step back into live competition with a great case about student sports. The team practiced from October through March, studying the case and preparing strategies for the plaintiff and the defense. Mock Trial is a great opportunity for middle school students to learn critical thinking and practice public speaking. The students put those skills to use when they argued their case on Tuesday evening in West Hartford against two other regional schools. Both sides scored high praise from the judges for their overall preparation and professional courtroom manner. The students had a great time and are looking forward to coming back next year. We are so proud of our “mocktrillions” and look forward to seeing them perform again!
Special thanks to middle school teachers, Mrs. Bradley, Miss Thibdeau and SPS parent, Mrs. P and grandparent, Mrs. Markow for helping and guiding the students during this amazing experience!
